Mazda first brought out their RX7 with twin-rotor Wankel engine in 1978 and the five-speed, rear-wheel drive made it a popular choice. Lightweight (weighing under 1000kg), with its distinctive wraparound all-glass tailgate, four-link rear suspension, simple carburated rotary power and famed 50:50 weight distribution was lauded by Car & Driver magazine, making it onto their 'Ten Best' list in 1983.
Manufactured in 1984, this RX-7 was supplied new and first registered as a demonstrator to Robinsons Garage, Wigston, Leicestershire, being registered to them on the 13th of April 1984. Fitted with the 1.3-litre Wankel engine mated to the five-speed manual gearbox, the Mazda is finished in the colour combination of Red paintwork with Grey interior upholstery. ‘A40 FUT’ has just 80,291 miles from new (at time of consignment) and has had eight former keepers.
The RX-7 is offered with the original bookpack that comprises the owners manual and stamped service book that comprises eight service records (mostly from Mazda main dealers) presented in the original Robinson’s Mazda plastic wallet, along with a selection of past MOT’s, workshop manual and a current V5C. Rediscovered following a period of unuse and subsequently offered in ‘barn find’ condition, the RX-7 is running and driving but will require recommissioning/restoring before returning to use on the road. Benefitting from working pop-up lights and the original alloy wheels, this RX-7 makes an exciting and worthwhile project!
