RREC Rockingham Castle

Lot 73

1923 Rolls-Royce 20hp Convertible

Estimated at £28,000 - £32,000

Lot details
Registration No: SV 5322
Chassis No: 87K5
Mot Expiry: Exempt

Finished in Yellow with Tan leather upholstery this notably early `B-Series' 20hp complete with three-speed centre-change gearbox is thought to have been exported to first France and then America. It is rumoured that whilst in the US it acquired its `Playboy Roadster'-style coachwork from Inskip of New York. Long believed to have belonged to Fred Astaire, chassis 87K5 entered its current ownership some nine years after it was repatriated and UK road registered as `SV 5322', the 20hp was found to be in need of a mechanical overhaul. Accompanying invoices from marque specialist Dennis Pilling & Son span 1997-2000 and total £29,740.23 (a sum which would be far higher at today's labour rates). As well as attention being paid to its rear-wheel brakes, suspension, starter motor and dynamo, the 20hp was given a thorough engine overhaul (including a new cylinder head). Further benefiting from a replacement petrol tank this flamboyant Rolls-Royce is offered with owner's handbook and history file and is only for sale due to illness.
