Unfortunately, the chassis and registration numbers previously quoted on our website and in the catalogue relate to another of his Bentley MKVIs. The chassis number stamping on the sale car is obscured by a cover and as such we are now offering it without a valid UK registration number or a known chassis number. The engine number visible on the cylinder head is B218H.

Almost as old as the model itself (which celebrates its 77th anniversary this year), the tradition of building Bentley MkVI-based Specials is a long and proud one. Introduced in 1946, Bentley's MkVI was the first vehicle ever offered by the company with factory-designed coachwork, and the first to be assembled in Rolls-Royce's Crewe factory rather than the old Derby premises. Aimed at the emerging 'owner-driver' luxury car market, the newcomer was closely based on the 1939 MkV (of which only fifteen were produced). Built around a massive cruciform-braced chassis with independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle, it was fitted with a freshly developed 4257cc OISE (overhead inlet side exhaust valve) straight-six engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Capable of over 100mph when clad in the factory's understated 'standard steel saloon' coachwork, the MkVI quickly developed a reputation for being a refined yet responsive drive.

The basis for this Bentley Special was a MkVI that is recorded as 4^th April 1952, with one former keeper recorded. There are a few areas of the car that require completing with work already advanced. As one would expect, the exterior is finished in Green paintwork with all the traditional hallmarks of an iconic Bentley. The interior features a period-style traditional turned-aluminium dashboard, however, the trimming of the interior requires finishing, which could be to a new owner’s requirements. It is offered with some spare trimming material and the soft-top hood frame.

Lots of hard work has already been carried out towards completion and offers the enthusiast the opportunity of completing with their own ‘spannering’ input and satisfaction once back on the road. The MkVI Special is offered with some unfitted parts, including and the hood frame and a spare wheel.
