Lot details

Mot Expiry: May 2008

Introduced three years after Chevrolet's wonderfully dramatic 1965 Mako Shark II show car, the so-called 'C3' Corvette borrowed heavily from its design exercise sibling's 'coke bottle' silhouette. Underpinned by a perimeter frame chassis featuring all-round independent suspension, recirculating ball steering and four-wheel disc brakes, the newcomer's beautifully moulded fibreglass skin was renowned for its quality and durability. Powered by a series of rumbling V8 engines culminating in a 350ci (5.7litre) unit, the 'C3' enjoyed an impressive fourteen year lifespan. Though, growing concerns over impending safety legislation saw GM drop the convertible version during July 1975.

Finished in silver over grey with black leather upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example was reputedly sold by Anglo-American Auctions Inc on 8th December 1990 as being one of twelve 'Silver Anniversary' models that had undergone a professional transformation from Coupe to Convertible (or so the vendor informs us). Entering the current ownership three years later, 'WAX 36S' is further understood to be in "good" condition with regard to its engine, three-speed automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and paintwork (while, the tyres are considered "fair"). Reportedly "maintained by its owner and vehicle specialists" since 1993 not to mention being "used only in the dry and kept in a dehumidified garage", the two-seater is stated to have covered just 57,000 miles from new. Riding on alloy wheels, 'WAX 36S' is thought but not guaranteed to be the only the Convertible 'Silver Anniversary' Corvette resident in the UK. A real head turner, this charismatic American sportscar is offered for sale with sale MOT certificate and road tax both valid until May 30th 2008.
