Sold for £30,375

Lot details
Registration No: BAS 412
Chassis No: 1066
Mot Expiry: May 2004

The first of the celebrated MG T Types replaced the PB Midget in the spring of 1936. A larger car than the PB and closer to the Magnette in size, the TA was powered by a 1292cc pushrod overhead valve engine that was closely related to the Wolseley Ten and, as with the SA, the brakes were hydraulically operated. A total of 3003 were built at Abingdon 1936-39, most being 2-seaters, though a few Tickford dropheads and Airline fixed heads were produced too.
Offered here is a very characterful proposition, an MG which started life as a 1937 TA, but which has been rebodied in the style of a Q Type 2-seater and is said to weigh only 500 kilograms. Last rebuilt in 2000 for racing, with torsion bar suspension and watts linkage, BAS 412 has been successfully campaigned at such venues as far afield as Angouleme to Curborough. We understand that the Eaton supercharged 1350cc 4-cylinder engine, rebuilt last year with aluminium head and new Phoenix steel crank, achieved a 130bhp reading when measured on the rolling road, while the limited slip differential has been renewed. The current overall condition of TA chassis, green-painted 2-seater bodywork, green interior, motor, electrical equipment and 5-speed gearbox are all described as being good.
Although having no FIA papers, this characterful prewar MG racer with MOT current until May is fully street legal and, according to the vendor, should provide a new owner here today with lots of fun!
