Lot details
Registration No: NLG677C
Chassis No: 18285
Mot Expiry: Aug 2009

One of the best looking and most successful sports racers of all time, the Ferrari 250 GTO has, thanks to the efforts of parent company FIAT's lawyers, officially been classified as a 'work of art'. With just thirty-six examples manufactured and an asking price of £15,000,000 upwards, they will forever be beyond the reach of mere mortals. However, given enough ingenuity most things are possible. Among the most convincing Ferrari 250GTO evocations that we have encountered, 'NLG 677C' is described by the vendor as being in "good overall" condition. Based on a Datsun Z-car donor clothed with fibreglass bodywork, the coupe is understood to have been "built over a ten-year period". Finished in red with black upholstery, it not only boasts "a bonnet, boot and doors that have been tailored to the correct dimensions" but also a plethora of GTO reproduction fittings such as "the fuel filler, lights, latches and scoops etc".

Seemingly trimmed in period Ferrari style, the interior sports "a Nardi steering wheel, correct gear lever and authentic instrument layout etc". Fed by four twin-choke Dellorto carburettors and allied to five-speed manual transmission, its TVR Chimaera-sourced 4.0litre V8 is kept in check by refurbished steering, nylon-bushed Leda adjustable suspension, vented front discs and aluminium rear drums. Further benefiting from a roll cage, 'NLG 677C' is said to be a "very fast, very light, terrific handling car" that has covered "approximately 4,600 miles since completion (speedometer and odometer inoperative)". Riding on wire wheels, it is offered for sale with "a double lever arch file of build details, drawings, progress photos, invoices and GTO articles" as well as a MOT certificate valid until August 27th 2009.
