Developed under the watchful eye of Porsche Chief Executive Peter Schutz, the 911 Carrera 3.2 made its debut at the September 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show. Visually indebted to the outgoing 911 SC, the newcomer wore a revised front valance complete with auxiliary driving lamps and a subtle 'Carrera' script on its engine lid. Available in coupe, targa and cabriolet guises, it remained faithful to established 911 practice by employing all-round independent torsion-bar suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. Estimated to be 80% new, the model's 3164cc (hence '3.2') flat-six engine was credited with developing 231bhp and 209lbft of torque. Allied to five-speed transmission, it proved both rev-happy and flexible. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and 153mph, the Carrera 3.2 was progressively developed over the course of its six-year production run. Amid the various interior changes and suspension tweaks, the arrival of the new Getrag G50 gearbox for the 1987 model year was welcomed by many. Lighter and more positive than its 915 predecessor, it made an already great driving experience even better. However, those looking for that little bit extra in terms of poise and road presence could opt for the 'Sport' package (later known as 'Sport Equipment') which included a deeper front valance, 'tea tray' rear spoiler, Bilstein shock absorbers and 16-inch Fuchs forged alloy wheels with black centres.
Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment and interior trim, while he rates the bodywork and paintwork as "excellent". Stated to have covered 106,000 miles from new, a figure apparently substantiated by "twenty-two stamps in the service book and fourteen old MOTs", 'F352 MNN' is further understood to "drive very well". Riding on alloy wheels, this striking 911 is offered for sale with "numerous service receipts / invoices" and MOT certificate valid until July 2010.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
