Ducati created the Monza in response to the demands of the North American market, where small capacity machines were selling in large numbers to young enthusiasts such as students who wanted simple, stylish transport. The engine was based on the earlier 125cc single with the extra capacity being achieved by increasing the bore to 61mm which combined with a 52mm stroke to give a capacity of 156cc. The revised engine, that retained the four speed gearbox employed by the 125, was fitted into the 250 singles frame rolling on 16 inch wheels. The first machines, built in 1964 retained their predecessors styling, however, for the 1965 season a new fuel tank, side panels and saddle were fitted that had squarer styling with 1966 season machines adding a square headlight but otherwise remaining the same. The models popularity started to decline in its intended market during 1967 with the result that approximately 1,800 examples were moved to the UK, where they continued to be available until 1972.
The example offered is presented to an exceptional standard having been recently been restored to near concours condition. Unlike many of the Monza Junior's seen in the UK that formed part of the 1,800 machines consigned to Bill Hannah this example was recently purchased from the States where it was first registered. It is offered with a Swansea V5C.
