RREC Rockingham Castle

Lot 58

1971 Range Rover Classic

Sold for £11,250

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: UXC184J
Chassis No: 35501011A
Mot Expiry: Oct 2014

Its chassis number shows 'UXC 184J' to be an early example of what we now know as the Range Rover Classic. Finished in Davos White complemented by Palamino-coloured trim, it has been the subject of a full photographic restoration, during which the chassis was sandblasted, repaired and painted, and new front and rear inner wings and upper tailgate installed. The mechanical components were overhauled or replaced as required and the original 3.5-litre V8 engine and four-speed gearbox replaced by a Rover 300TDi unit and related five-speed transmission. According to the vendor (who is including the original items in the sale), the four-cylinder diesel engine offers the same power and torque as the V8, but returns 34mpg, while the five-speed gearbox makes for a quieter, more civilised drive. Other upgrades to this otherwise very original Range Rover include: power steering, heated front and rear screens, tow bar, rear load protector and rear seat belts.
