Introduced at the April 1934 Paris Salon, the Traction Avant was a technological tour-de-force thanks to its unique combination of a monocoque chassis, front-wheel drive, torsion bar independent suspension, hydraulic brakes and (from 1936) rack and pinion steering. Powered by a 1911cc four-cylinder OHV engine allied to manual transmission, the Light 15 versions produced at Citroen's Slough factory boasted wooden dashboards, leather upholstery and 12-volt electrics. Pleasingly retaining its original buff logbook which confirms ‘850AVW’ has had just 5 previous keepers, two of whom were in the same family the Citroen has been in current ownership since 1989. A Slough-built example it has recently been subject to a brake overhaul, shod with correct type Michelin tyres all round and has been fitted with some sensible upgrades such as an SU Carburettor, electronic ignition and a Clayton heater. Offered with a collection of invoices, aforementioned buff and green logbooks, workshop manual, old MOT's and Tax discs back to 1969 the vendor currently considers the engine, transmission, interior to be in `Very Good' order with the bodywork and paintwork all to be `Good'. This smart example although exempt is offered with an MOT certificate into March 2022.
