Lot details
Registration No: T.B.A.
Chassis No: 20691
Mot Expiry: June 2005

The Pininfarina-styled 308GTB was the real successor to the legendary 246 Dino fixed head and targa-top. The 308GTB chassis was similar to its predecessors, though with 2921cc twin overhead camshafts and dry-sumped V8 power unit. From 1977, lighter panels in GRP were used and, by the time they stopped making the 308 in 1988, the model had become the most popular of all the production roadgoing Ferraris.
This 1977-built 308GTB was acquired by Italia Auto Sport Racing Limited specifically to take part in the Maranello Challenge Cup in 1996, when the fixed head coupe also won a Concours award at the Silverstone Historic Racing Festival. We understand that since 1997, however, that the righthand drive GT has been laid up until modifications were carried out in 2003 to enable this track car to become street-legal for road use.
Although unsubstantiated by the entrant, it is suggested that the previous owner may have been rock star Roger Daltrey, hence the highly appropriate WHO 308 plate. Clients should be aware, however, that this cherished registration is not being included with this car, although the vendor tells us that it would be available by separate negotiation.
The current condition of body and red paintwork is said to be good, the interior is in good order, too, the electrical equipment all works, and the race prepared 3-litre 8-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission are reportedly both in good order.
PLEASE NOTE: This competition 308 was owned for many years by Cotswold antique dealer Mike Golding and raced in the Maranello Ferrari Challenge in the name of his company Huntingdon Antiques. Preparation experts involved included Bob Houghton and QV London Ltd and the car always seemed to go well in the wet! The rebuild was completed by Italia Autosport and we believe that it did win it's class in a concours after completion.
