1930 Vauxhall T Type Hurlingham Sports

Estimated at £18,000 - £22,000

Lot details
Registration No: UN-REG
Chassis No: 023931
Mot Expiry: None

On offer here is a rare Vauxhall from the early years of General Motors ownership in the pre-unitary construction bodyshell days when motor cars were still constructed on traditional lines with separate chassis and coachwork. While Vauxhall records from this period are rather sketchy, they do suggest that a British-built Vauxhall, identified by 'VX 1928' (presumably its registration), did leave these shores bound for the Argentine in 1928.
Hurlingham bodies appeared on some R 20/60 as well as on later T Type chassis, the former 2762cc ohv six powered 1928 model (increased to 2916cc for 1929) being the first GM-Vauxhall, the latter 1930 onwards model being generally similar though with higher rad and mechanical fuel pump.
From shipping paperwork, this open Vauxhall would appear to have resided on both the South as well as North American Continents, having been in Montevideo, Argentina, and Austin, Texas, although is currently unregistered in the UK.
The condition of the Hurlingham 2-seater bodywork with rumble-seat, which was the only sporting coachwork of the different styles to be offered pre-WW2 by GM, is said to be good as is the blue paintwork. With fashionable good looks, the Hurlingham was a real crumpet puller, proving popular with movie directors. Only half a dozen of these cars are thought to be in the UK.
Thanks to the VSCC calendar, there are no shortage of activities in which the next owner and this motor car could participate.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running. It was stuck in gear when moving in the building.
