Lot details Registration No: C10 NSX Chassis No: JHMNA11500T Mot Expiry: Dec 2010
"The moment I drove the NSX, all the benchmark cars - Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini - I had been using as references in the development of my car vanished from my mind. Of course the car we would create, the McLaren F1, needed to be faster than the NSX, but the NSX's ride quality and handling would become our new design target" (Gordon Murray, McLaren F1 designer).
Unveiled at the February 1989 Chicago Auto Show the Honda NSX was the brainchild of Ken Okuyama and Shigeru Uehara. The world's first production car to be based around an aluminium monocoque, the newcomer also made use of aluminium for its all-round double-wishbone independent suspension. Dynamically honed by Satoru Nakajima, Bobby Rahal and most famously, Ayrton Senna, the NSX was initially assembled at the purpose-built Takanezawa R&D Plant in Tochigi (though, production switched to Suzuka from mid 2004 onwards). Powered by a mid-mounted 3-litre V6 engine allied to five-speed manual transmission, the two-seater was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds and 159mph. A vastly underrated machine when new, the Honda has nevertheless become something of a cult classic thanks to a GT2 class win at the 1995 Le Mans 24-hours (8th overall) not to mention an appearance in the film 'Pulp Fiction'.
UK deliveries were always limited, so the NSX is now a relatively rare sight on British roads.
This car, which carries the distinctive registration plate 'C10 NSX', was first registered in January 1992, and is said to have been "originally owned, operated and maintained by Honda UK". Prior to entering the current ownership in November 2000, the supercar apparently belonged to the director / principal of a Derbyshire Honda dealership for some four years. Spared regular commuting duties and subjected to minimal urban use over the last decade, the NSX has covered circa 96,000 miles from new (a figure reportedly substantiated by "full service history"). Finished in silver with black leather upholstery, 'C10 NSX' is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Treated to a main agent cambelt change last year, it is taxed and tested.
