Further Info:
'SDG 498H' was delivered new to a Major John Grenville Baker by Cleeve Motors of Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire. The Major retained it for 29 years, during which time he covered under 16,000 documented miles. It then briefly passed to a Julie Ann Thorne, and in 1999 to Stuart James Burgess, who set about a thorough restoration that lasted 13 years. The work reputedly totalled £11,000 in parts alone and included the removal of all corrosion and a respray in the original colour of Peacock Blue. Along the way, the engine was reportedly upgraded to period Brabham specification with modified cylinder head fed by a pair of Stromberg 150 carburettors on Brabham inlet manifold, lightened flywheel, and a balanced bottom end. This notably smart car wears period 'Brabham Viva' decals and is believed to have covered just 16,000 miles from new. Quite possibly unique, it comes complete with supporting MOTs, a letter from the first owner, handbook, photos of the restoration, period Brabham Viva brochure (depicting an Estate variant) and MOT valid to August 2016.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
