The De Soto marque was founded by Walter Chrysler in August 1928, and introduced to the market the following year. It was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto and created to give Chrysler a rival to the mid-price offerings of its trio of arch-rivals General Motors, Studebaker and Willys-Knight. The Model K on offer is from the first year of production and is a charming Roadster complete with dickie seat. It's finished in Yellow over Black and rides on varnished artillery wheels. A right-hand drive example, it was apparently manufactured in Windsor Canada for the New Zealand market, which is where it resided before being imported to the UK in the 1980s. The subject of a 1950s restoration, it is regarded by the vendor as having "good" bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, and manual gearbox, while of the engine he notes that the 2.9-litre six-cylinder unit "runs with no noises".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
