Beginning life as a Mercedes-Benz 500 SE Saloon finished in Smoke Silver Metallic with Brazil Brown velour upholstery, chassis 010257 was converted into an eight-seater limousine by Coleman Milne in 1992 at a cost of £33,000 (invoice on file). Used to ferry a variety of VIPs around, the Mercedes' fifteen minutes of fame came in 1991 when it was hired by rock legends ZZ Top for the UK leg of their 1990-1991 Recycler Tour. Reputedly dressed in pink suits with matching hats and supported by the likes of Bryan Adams and Thunder, the band made good use of the limousine's capacious interior. Though, any rock'n'roll antics were obviously kept to a minimum because the 500SE still retains its original Brazil Brown velour upholstery! Repainted Ivory and more recently employed as a wedding car, the Mercedes remains a highly imposing machine.

A true marque enthusiast, the vendor tells us that the area under the limousine's rear screen and its boot floor (both common rot spots) are in excellent condition. Noting the presence of a glass division, chauffeur's telephone and cool box, he also rates the 5 litre V8 engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim as 'excellent'. Mercedes' W126 generation S-Class has become increasingly collectible of late with RM Sotheby's achieving some staggering prices for scarcer variants. A rare machine with a fascinating back story, 'SVF 126' has just undergone an oil change and MOT test. A great opportunity for a rock'n'roll enthusiast or hire car business owner, this statement Benz is offered for sale with a V5C Registration Document, history file and sundry photos.
