Lot details Registration No: A234PAE Frame No: 1990 Engine No: 1990 cc: 998 MOT Expiry Date: March 2012
Introduced to the world at the November 1981 Milan Show, the RGS 1000 employed a revised version of the existing 120 degree crank three cylinder engine in a completely revised set of cycle parts. The engine was mounted in a new frame with rubber anti vibration mounts and offered a much reduced seat height when compared with the Jota models and in traditional Laverda practice the "bought in" components employed were of the highest quality with Veglia providing the instrumentation, Brembo the brakes and Marzocchi the front forks. The most startling feature, however, was the models bodywork. A half fairing blended into the fuel tank cover, the filler for the fuel tank being mounted on the right hand side of the fairing. The saddle featured a removable cover for the pillion seat and integrated side panels. A touring kit was available as an option for those requiring a luggage carrying capability. When tested by the specialist press the new machine met with considerable praise particularly in respect of its open road performance, handling and quality which were all of the highest order. Unfortunately for Laverda, the new models release coincided with a general downturn in motorcycle sales which depressed sales of what was arguably one of the finest sports tourers built.
The example offered has covered 51,158 miles from new. The paintwork was renewed earlier this year and the motorcycle has recently been fully serviced with new tyres and a new battery being fitted. A stainless steel exhaust system and Koni "Dial a Ride" shock absorbers are fitted to the machine which is currently on SORN. The motorcycle, which has completed the Dijon Run, is described as being "strong" mechanically and very good in all other respects. It is offered with a Swansea V5C and an MOT valid until the 7th March 2012.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
