The original CBX undoubtedly achieved its goal in reasserting Honda's technical expertise in the field of engine design and the majority of enthusiasts were willing to forgive the machine some of its less endearing traits. The CBX was, in its first form, all about the engine, with the handling leaving room for improvement. The engineers at Osaka sought to remedy this, specifying new Showa shock absorbers and a strenghtened swinging arm running on needle and ball bearings on the 1980 season machines in place of the FVQ dampers and plastic bushes employed on the original machines. These however, were little more than stop gap modifications pending the release of the considerably revised CBX-B in 1981.

The new machine was equipped with Honda's progressive monoshock rear suspension system, known as Pro-Link, which featured a large, box section alloy swinging arm controlled by a an air assisted, oil damped monoshock. At the front 39mm forks replaced the earlier models 35mm items. Mechanically the engine remained largely unchanged, although the clutch was modified and the cases were in a combined black and polished finish, that complimented the finish applied to the Comstar wheels. Twin four piston callipers were fitted to the front end to counter the increase in weight that resulted from the addition of a full fairing. The full fairing reflected the subtle shift in orientation for the CBX from outright sports motorcycle to grand tourer. The model was fitted with a clock as standard and optional panniers were available. The 66lb increase in weight compared to the CBX-A and the addition of the fairing resulted in a 10 mph decrease in performance, although the revisions to the chassis had improved the machines handling. During the B and the subsequent C series two year production life approximately 6000 examples were built, a quarter of the A series production.

The machine offered dates from 1982 and is fitted with the optional panniers. The machine has never been started and is offered in new and unused condition.
