Lot 4 - 1956 MG Magnette ZA Saloon

1956 MG Magnette ZA Saloon

Estimated at £3,500 - £4,500

Lot details
Registration No: RSJ 234
Chassis No: KAE/2316039
Mot Expiry: Aug 2003

The clergyman owner of this lot tells us that he is 'reluctantly' having to dispose of his 1956 MG Magnette ZA Series sports-saloon with period accessories due to the enforced mobility of being a padre in HM's Armed Forces.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust's Archive and Library have confirmed that chassis number KAE23/16039 was originally manufactured in righthand drive as a 'Personal Export Delivery' in Island Green cellulose by the MG Car Company at their Abingdon Berkshire factory in 1956. Acquired in Rhodesia by the current owner's father, the Magnette apparently spent many happy years providing family holiday transport touring the old colony as well as making several excursions to neighbouring South Africa. Due to being 'Out of Africa' and always being garaged, rust is said to be negligible.
The current owner, who imported the car from Zimbabwe through Southampton docks in 1995 when it carried foreign 230-323A plates and was allocated the age-related RSJ 234, has registered the car with the Z and Farina Magnette Register of the MG Car Club. According to BMIHT, the BMC Type 15AMW engine currently fitted was originally used in the Austin Cambridge manufactured 1959-1961 - the vendor says that it has been tuned to perform satisfactorily at 5000 feet above sea level! When entered for this sale, the odometer showed 17,339 miles, which he claims to be the genuine total driven from new.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle now has a current MOT certificate until August next year. The fuel flap is released from within the boot by turning a screw and there is an electrical cut-off to the right of the driver under the bulkhead from the door.
