The Gold Star returned to the BSA catalogue for the 1949 season. The new machine was initially offered as a 350cc, although a 500cc version joined it later in the year. The engine was derived from the B series machines but featured an alloy barrel and head. Drive was via a standard BSA gearbox with both units being housed in a plunger frame equipped with telescopic front forks. The cycle parts were drawn from other machines in the range and a comprehensive list of optional parts including different gears, higher compression pistons, alternative cams, different sized fuel tanks, alternative magnetos with or without a dynamo, valve springs, carburettors and exhaust systems were offered enabling the machine to be modified and tuned for specific uses. "Motor Cycling" carried out a two part test of the new machine in May 1949, finding it to be capable of 78mph with good acceleration and roadholding in its "standard" touring trim and capable of more than 90mph when prepared to "Clubman" specification. 1950 saw the introduction of a new 8 inch front brake and in 1951 the downdraught angle of the inlet port was changed .
The example offered would appear to date from 1951, although, according to the vendor, the factory record card is inconclusive. It is described as being in very good condition throughout and as being" a very good rider". Presented with full road equipment it is accompanied by a Swansea V5C, a BSA Owners Club dating certificate and a recently expired MOT certificate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
