Lot details Registration No: N/A Frame No: GS1000R-303 Engine No: GSX750ESR84001F cc: 750 MOT Expiry Date: N/A
This machine was ridden to victory in the 1983 Isle of Man TT in the hands of Rob McElnea at which time it was fitted with a GSX1000 engine with pairing returning to the Island again in 1984, although the machine now wore a different livery. It is therefore the last machine raced on the Isle of Man by Rob McElnea.
A change in regulations for the 1985 season resulted in the GSX1000 engine being replaced by an air cooled GSX 750 R engine containing a number of Yoshimura and factory tuning components. Frame number GSX1000R - 303 was campaigned in this form in UK National, International and World F1 races by Mick Grant and Graeme McGregor before being retired at the end of the season. It was purchased by George Beale in 1986 directly from Suzuki GB who retained the machine for a number of years before selling it to an Irish collector.
While in the current owners hands the machine has benefitted from some sympathetic renovation while maintaining the machines originality. The chassis and suspension were stripped and cleaned with the front forks receiving new seals. The brakes were overhauled with new seals being fitted. The vendor notes that the rear calliper will require new pads if the machine is used and that the original tyres will need replacing.
The engine was striped and given a "light overhaul" to ensure that it was safe to run and the paintwork was tidied up where needed whilst seeking to maintain as far as possible the machine's originality.
It has subsequently been started and run but not ridden. The vendor notes that the exhaust header pipes to the silencer are made of titanium contributing to the motorcycles overall lightness.
It is offered with letters from George Beale and former Suzuki GB race engineer Robert Bolton confirming its history together with an engine specification sheet from the 1984 Zolder F1 meeting.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
