Lot details Registration No: ATV 670 Chassis No: 34847 Mot Expiry: Sept 2013
Beginning life as Darracq-bodied `Special Sports Saloon' and factory equipped with the sought after 3377cc OHV straight-six engine allied to four-speed pre-selector transmission, chassis 34847 was despatched to Sam Ward & Sons Ltd of Nottingham on 4th January 1935. Although now fitted, at a date unknown, with bespoke tourer coachwork, the car retains its original `matching numbers' chassis and engine. The four-seater was purchased by the vendor in 1987 on the understanding that it had recently undergone an extensive engine overhaul. While the current ownership has seen it treated to a new petrol tank and entrusted to renowned specialist Cecil Schumacher for a pre-selector gearbox overhaul.
Maintained in working order over the last quarter century, this Post Vintage Thoroughbred is evidently desirable both in terms of performance and rarity.
PLEASE NOTE: Contrary to its catalogue description, this BA75 began life with a standard 2.3 Litre engine. The car has been upgraded with a larger Roesch Talbot straight-six at some stage which is believed but not warranted to displace 3.3-litres. Cecil Schumacher deduced the capacity from a pipette measurement and reported his findings to the vendor. In summary, this Special was not factory-fitted with the current larger capacity powerplant nor does it boast 'matching' chassis and engine numbers.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
