Codenamed 'Zest', the TR4 was introduced in 1961 as a replacement for the TR3A. Although it was based on the chassis and drivetrain of its much-loved predecessor it cut a far more modern dash, thanks to an all-new Michelotti-styled body. Power was provided by Triumph's proven OHV four-cylinder engine. The capacity was, however, increased to 2138cc. Other mechanical updates included a wider track front and rear, rack and pinion steering and an all-synchromesh gearbox. The optional overdrive was now made to operate on second and third gears as well as top - the result was effectively a close-ratio box with seven speeds. There was also the option of a unique hardtop with fixed glass rear window, integral rollbar and removable centre section, as fitted to this example.

This right-hand drive TR4, a classic sports car renowned for its elegance and performance, has seen a diverse range of uses throughout its history. The car was acquired by its current vendor in September 1992, marking the beginning of a journey to transform it into a vehicle that excels both on the road and in rally settings. Extensive rebuilding and modifications have been undertaken to enhance its safety, reliability, and overall performance. In the 1990s, RevingtonTR, a notable name in the world of Triumph car modifications, embarked on a project to create a comfortable, quick, and dependable road car that could also participate in tours and regularity rally events. This undertaking resulted in a series of meticulous enhancements that have significantly elevated the car's capabilities. Among the noteworthy improvements are an upgraded suspension system, the integration of a J-type Stag overdrive, and the incorporation of a RevingtonTR logic overdrive control unit. These additions contribute to a smoother and more controlled driving experience, both on winding roads and during long journeys.

Notable alterations, aimed at enhancing the car's practicality, include the installation of an aluminium large long-range fuel tank, a two-speed heater, and an intermittent windscreen wipe facility. These features not only make the car more adaptable to various conditions but also enhance its comfort for extended road use. The vehicle's mechanical components have not been overlooked, with an overhauled engine ensuring optimal performance. Additional practical additions include tow hooks, spotlights with grilles, an anti-roll bar, underbody protection, and an aluminium bonnet with catches. The inclusion of a backlight frame accommodating both a hardtop and Surrey top adds further versatility to the car's design. Interior upgrades cater to both convenience and safety, with internal reading lights, a reversing light, and rally instruments integrated into the dashboard. Rally seats equipped with 5-point seatbelts, complemented by a roll cage and harnesses, reflect the car's dual nature as a roadworthy vehicle and a rally contender. A fire extinguisher stands ready to address any unforeseen emergencies.

The performance enhancements are not limited to aesthetics and comfort; a road rally exhaust system strikes a balance between optimizing gas flow and maintaining a quiet driving experience. The car also boasts chrome wire wheels and racing callipers, attesting to its performance-oriented character. To supplement its rich history and transformation process, the car is offered with an extensive history file. This file includes a collection of current and past V5 documents, a substantial array of invoices – primarily from renowned Triumph specialists Enginuity and Revington TR, spanning back to 1993 – and a current MOT, accompanied by a comprehensive record of previous MOTs dating as far back as 1996. In summation, this fastidiously maintained right-hand drive TR4 exemplifies the remarkable convergence of classic elegance, rally performance, and roadworthiness and should appeal to driving enthusiasts and collectors alike.
