The second largest Mercedes-Benz tuner after AMG (which became a subsidiary of the Stuttgart giant during the 1990s), Brabus GmbH has been plying its trade since 1977. Garnering something of a cult following over the past forty-three years, the Bottrop-based concern has become synonymous with outlandishly styled and outrageously fast cars.
Beginning life as a range-topping ML63 AMG, chassis WDC1641772A384789 was built on March 9th 2008 to order number 0753769761. Finished in Obsidian Black Metallic with Cashmere Beige leather upholstery, its impressive equipment tally included: speed sensitive power steering, adaptive damping, rear view camera, PARKTRONIC, electrically adjustable and heated front seats (with memory function), automatically dimming mirrors, rain sensing windscreen wipers, electric sunroof, AIRMATIC suspension, COMAND APS, Bi-Xenon headlamps with cornering function, tinted glass, AMG body styling, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, Bluetooth telephone and powered tailgate etc.
Upgraded by Brabus to B63S specification, the menacing SUV’s 6.3 litre V8 engine gained sport air filters and high-performance metal catalysts as well as newly programmed engine electronics with custom mapping for its ignition and injection systems. With an additional 40bhp and 20Nm on tap (boosted to 550bhp and 650Nm respectively), the tuned ML was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and over 170mph! Uprated brakes and lowered suspension helped keep such towering performance in check.
Apparently costing more than £107,000 when new, ‘NG08 HBN’ was acquired by the vendor for £54,995 in November 2011 with a recorded mileage of 16,598. A faithful workhorse over the past nine years, the Brabus’ odometer now shows some 68,000 miles. Indeed, the vendor informs us that it is the most reliable of all the supercar-baiting Mercedes-Benzs he has owned.
The accompanying Service Booklet contains stamps at: 8,716 (Mercedes-Benz, Tony Purslow Ltd), 13,431 (Mercedes-Benz of Bridgend), 16,449 (Mercedes-Benz, Bridgend), 37,448 (Bowker Ribble Valley), 43,328 (Bowker Maserati), 60,213 (Bowker Ribble Valley) and 62,690 miles (Jasmine Porschalink UK). Returning to Jasmine Porschalink UK for a new battery in December 2018 and some minor brake work the following November, the super 4x4 is expected to possess a fresh MOT certificate by the time of sale (the current one expires in December 2020).
Any Brabus-enhanced Mercedes-Benz is a rarity (especially in RHD) but even among its siblings few can boast as much road presence as this ML63 AMG derived machine. Scarcer and more powerful than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the B63S started readily upon inspection. The 20-inch alloy wheels would benefit from refurbishment and there are some stone chips / imperfections to the paintwork. However, these are readily forgotten whenever the throttle pedal is depressed!
Offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, book pack and history file.
