Lot details

Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Handbook with embossed 4-BP-7 on cover. This chassis number refers to H.R.H. Princess Margaret’s July 1954 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV, coachbuilder HJ Mulliner, design number 7368. Registration number PM6450. Handbook includes rear passenger compartment controls details on page 24.

Rolls-Royce Post-War Phantoms IV / V / VI book by Martin Bennet (first edition 2008). Includes details of HRH Princess Margaret 4-BP-7 including photographs pp46&47. This Phantom IV was later sold, and in 2008 was owned by Gullwing Motors in the USA.

Phantom IV produced 1950-1956, was highly exclusive coach built, limited to Royalty or Heads of State hence number total produced was only 18. Chassis length 18 ft 11 inches. Width 6ft 5 inches. Powered by 5.7 litre straight eight, with 6.5 litre straight eight for final three.

Other famous first owners include the very first Phantom IV, in July1950, chassis 4AF2 for H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth (later H.M. Queen), with coachwork by HJ Mulliner, design number 7162. Originally valentine green this became Royal Claret/black two tone when HM Queen. This is still in Royal ownership and still used by the Royal Family, including at the Wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2018.

Other Phantom IV owners included HRH Duke of Gloucester, General Franco of Spain (3, including two armoured plated versions), Emir of Kuwait, Aga Khan, King Faisal, and Prince Regent of Iraq.
