Lot details Registration No: K19 TUS Chassis No: SCC082910NHD1002 Mot Expiry: April 2007
Styled by Peter Stevens of McLaren F1 fame, the revised Lotus Esprit Turbo (code named X180 by the factory) was launched in October 1987. Like its Giugiaro penned predecessor, it was based around a steel backbone chassis equipped with all round independent suspension (double wishbone front / twin transverse link rear), vented / solid disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. However, the adoption of a new Renault sourced five-speed transaxle resulted in both higher gearing and a more positive shift pattern. Boasting improved aerodynamics and plentiful power from its forced-induction 2174cc DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine, the Turbo was capable of sprinting from 0-60mph in less than six seconds and onto over 150mph. Benefiting from a surprisingly supple ride and decent fuel consumption, the X180 was an altogether more practical proposition than some of its rivals.
Finished in pearl white with navy leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Said to possess "precise, incisive handling with accurate steering and phenomenal acceleration", its recorded mileage of 55,702 is apparently supported by "full service history". Reportedly treated to "a recent cam belt change at 53,000 miles", it has the added bonuses of a "CAT1 alarm", "tracker" and "dual exit stainless silencer system". Wearing the distinctive registration number 'K19TUS' this bona fide supercar is offered for sale with history file and "12 months" MOT certificate.
