Further Info:

The Rover 800 was designed because of British Leyland's need for a replacement for the Rover SD1, whilst Honda was keen to expand its presence in the lucrative North American market, something which it couldn't fully do unless it had a full-size luxury saloon in the range. Joint development of the car began in 1981 under the 'XX' codename. The development work was carried out at Rover's Canley plant and Honda's Tochigi development centre.

In the autumn of 1991, the 800 was re-skinned and re-engineered under the 'R17' codename. This saw the re-introduction of the traditional Rover grille and more curvaceous bodywork.

A two-door coupé version was launched in early 1992, having debuted at the 1991 Motor Show. From 1992 until 1996, the Rover 800 Coupe came exclusively with the 2.7 Honda V6 engine and 16-inch Rover 'Prestige' alloys. A four-speed automatic transmission came as standard, and the car was capable of well over 130mph.

The car had been originally developed with the American market in mind but was never sold there, with Rover having pulled out of the US market before the Coupé's launch. It was, however, sold to other export markets. Eighty percent of the interior and exterior of the 800 Coupé was finished by hand.

On offer here is a 1992 registered model. The paintwork and interior are almost 'as new', the car having covered just 38,000 miles, with all electrics working as they should. In the current owner's care for some time, no expense has been spared when maintaining the car, and it comes to the sale with a large file of bills and old MoT certificates.

The cherished registration number 'K5 TAS' is also included, as well as a current MoT certificate.

Here is an opportunity to acquire a now rare and appreciating car, of which only 33 are believed to remain licensed by the DVLA, and which represents tremendous value for money.
