The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagon, short for Geländewagen (cross-country vehicle), is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature. The G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz in Daimler's history with a span of 32 years. It was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran and offered as a civilian version in 1979. The first major refinements were introduced in 1981, including an automatic transmission, air conditioning, an auxiliary fuel tank, protective headlamp grilles and a cable winch. Fuel injection became available in 1982 when the 230GE was introduced in Turin, along with more comfortable and supportive front seats, auxiliary heating, wider tyres and wheel arches. For 1985, differential locks, central door locking and a tachometer became standard.

This G-Wagon was manufactured in 1990 and is in desirable 3-door form, as well as being a UK-supplied right-hand drive example from new. Finished in black with grey checked interior upholstery, the G-Class is 300GD specification which utilised the venerable OM603 series naturally aspirated 3.0 diesel engine developing 111bhp when new. Entering current ownership in 2016 following a period off the road, the G-Wagon had been in previous ownership since 2006 and has a total of five former keepers with a recorded mileage of 55,000 miles.

Upon entering current ownership, ‘G411 LCW’ was subject to a comprehensive body-off restoration which was completed in 2021 and comprised many new parts including new bumpers; three wings; front springs and shock absorbers; grill; brakes; light surrounds; front and rear guards; fuel pipe; indicator, fog and number plate lights. Further benefitting from refurbished wheels, driver’s seat remediation and a deep clean of the original carpets. The G-Wagon is accompanied by three keys, a current V5C and a large quantity of invoices. Due to be freshly MOT’d for the sale despite still holding a current MOT until September this year.
