For many, the dreams of owning an original AC Cobra evaporated thirty years ago, as values of the remaining examples accelerated almost as fast as the cars themselves. Never had there been a better opportunity for the manufacture of replica products and numerous entrepreneurial companies stepped up to the plate. Among them was Magnum Engineering who focused their attention on the immortal 427. The Magnum 427 was designed by Mike Broad over twenty years ago and has been under constant development ever since. It is based on a unique, exceptionally rigid, round tube spaceframe panelled in NS4 aluminium alloy and clothed in a single-skinned unstressed Kevlar body - the chassis incorporates crumple zones front and rear and impact protection at the sides. Unlike most Cobra evocations, it does not require a donor car and features fully adjustable rose-jointed wishbone and coil spring suspension all round. Steering is by quick ratio rack and pinion and braking is by vented discs and four pot callipers at the front and solid discs at the rear. The engine is a matter for customer choice.

This 1998 / 2009 Magnum SF is reportedly the 38th of 68 cars built by the factory between 1988 and 2007 and, according to the vendor, comprises only the best parts available. Said to have had circa £65,000 lavished on it, 'ADY 784D' boasts such niceties as an aluminium bonnet and boot lid fabricated by Bodylines (the renowned Aston Martin restorers) and a high specification 7.1-litre Chevrolet V8 engine that's done almost zero miles since a £6,800 overhaul by Rick Wood Racing in September (Mr Wood being Audi's engine builder of choice for its BTCC campaign this year). Viciously quick, accompanying dyno sheets reveal that the two-seater has a monstrous 571bhp and 584lbft of torque at its disposal. The unit is mated to a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox. Finished in Polynesian Turquoise, and trimmed in Black leather, this very exciting road/track Cobra Evocation has covered just 4,900 dry miles since completion and comes with tonneau, mohair hood, MOT into May 2012, assorted invoices, road tax and SVA certificate. A new pair of rear tyres and louder side pipes valued at approximately £1000 are available by separate negotiation.
