Vendor Condition Ratings:

Bodywork: 'Very Good / Excellent' (very small area of bubbling to a rear arch)
Engine: 'Very Good'
Electrical Equipment: 'Very Good' (recent health check)
Paintwork: 'Very Good / Excellent'
Transmission: 'Excellent' (five-speed manual gearbox)
Interior Trim: 'Very Good' (small tear in the driver's seat bolster)

Finished in the handsome combination of Aqua Blue metallic with Grey leather upholstery, this particular example rides on freshly refurbished Speedline alloy wheels. The vendor was told that the engine had been overhauled with new timing chains and tensioners etc at 168,000 miles (circa 8,000 miles ago) when he bought it and there are bills on file for other work carried out at the same time including new wheel bearings all round, engine mounts, plug leads and nearside / offside front driveshafts. Mildly uprated with a K&N air induction kit, Milltek stainless steel exhaust and Koni adjustable shock absorbers, ‘M975 TBA’ is said to ‘look great and sound amazing’. A recent electronics health check revealed the sunroof and heated front seats to be working. Though, the active rear spoiler is not functioning due to what is thought to be a faulty speed sensor. Not long serviced, the Corrado is showing a small area of bubbling to a rear arch but the vendor welcomes any inspection and tells us that there is a genuine reason for sale.

Model Background:

Arriving in late 1991 the VR6-engined version of the Volkswagen Corrado was hailed by CAR magazine as one of ’25 cars you must drive before you die’, while Auto Express rated it as among ‘VW’s best ever drivers’ cars’. Sharing the same handsome Herbert Schafer-penned silhouette as its four-cylinder siblings, the newcomer sported a wider front track so as to accommodate its six-cylinder powerplant. Responsible for inspiring VAG’s later Bentley W12 and Bugatti W16 designs, the freshly developed engine featured an unusually narrow Vee angle of 15 degrees meaning that it only need a single cylinder head. Sonorous and punchy, it produced some 188bhp and 181lbft of torque and was allied to either four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. Equipped with MacPherson struts up front and trailing arms plus a torsion beam at the rear, the manual VR6 was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds and 145mph; seriously impressive figures during the early 1990s and still respectable today.
