Introduced in 1981, two years after its saloon sibling, the W126 S-class coupe was a singularly elegant design. Styled by Bruno Sacco, the two-door, pillarless construction did little to compromise interior space. Intended as a four-seater transcontinental express, its sleek silhouette hid all-round independent suspension, disc brakes, power-assisted steering and a range of potent V8 engines mated to an automatic transmission. Top of the launch range, the 500SEC was continuously updated gaining Bosch KE-jetronic fuel injection in 1985. Developing a quoted 245bhp and 286lbft of torque, the 4973cc SOHC V8 was reportedly capable of propelling the super coupe to 60mph in 7.2 seconds and onto a 146mph top speed.
This 500SEC was manufactured in 1988 and was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 1st of August 1988. Fitted with the 4973cc SOHC V8 engine with a four-speed manual transmission. The BMW is finished in Signal red over grey paintwork with ‘crème’ beige interior upholstery. ‘R921 SEP’ has an odometer reading of 143,219 recorded miles (at time of consignment) and has only three former keepers. Entering previous ownership in 1993, the 500 SEC has been in current ownership since 2012. Benefitting from wheel refurbishment in 2012, the 500 SEC is offered with a current V5C.
