The Austin Kempton was originally called the Greyhound 12/6 Speed Saloon and is described in the Austin magazine of that period as being aptly named, for its lithe clean lines suggest a smooth and speedy transit. The fact that the overall height is but 62 inches indicates the low centre of gravity from which the Greyhound derives its cornering and road-holding qualities. It is believed that this 1934 body was made by Adler in Germany for Austin and they made just 250 examples of which 59 were saloons which makes this now quite a rare model.
The chassis and bodywork of this particular car are in good condition although the paintwork is cracked and chipped in places from an older respray. The interior has been refurbished with a new headlining and carpets having been fitted at some stage and it has a fully operational sun roof. It has the lovely sprung steering wheel and this sports model still has a manual advance and retard lever under the steering wheel.
The V5 document confirms the engine to be the larger 1711cc six cylinder model and this engine has bags of torque and, coupled to the four speed gearbox, it makes it a very responsive car for the 1930's.
