The mini is considered an icon of 1960s and perhaps one of the most iconic vehicles of all time, influencing a generation of car makers and in 1999, the mini was voted the second-most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T.
The MK7 Mini Cooper was based on the Mini 30, the most luxuriously equipped Limited Edition Mini to date, but fitted with the 1,275cc engine rather than the 30's 998cc unit. What would turn out to be the final Mini version arrived in 1996. Changes included twin-point fuel injection, higher final drive gearing, driver's airbag, side impact beams, additional sound insulation, improved front seats, front-mounted radiator and a 'Sports Pack' option. Part of a factory initiative intended to encourage customers to personalise their Minis, the Sports Pack comprised 13"x6" Minilite-style alloy wheels, extended wheel arches, Koni dampers, four auxiliary front lights, large-bore exhaust tailpipe and extra instruments. Among the numerous other options was a wood embellished interior and 'John Cooper' black leather seats.
Presented in the rare Amaranth pearlescent paint, this particular Mini Cooper Sportspack hosts the black leather interior with contrasting cream piping and accents. Having only covered a warranted 33,716 miles and just 3 former keepers, R654 KHR was acquired by its current custodian in August of 2017. Since then, the vehicle has received some work, including a rear replacement subframe in May of 2018 and a replacement clutch in September of 2019. The vehicle has been stored in a dry garage for the last 2 years.
R654 KHR car was purchased from The Chequered Flag in Chiswick just 7 months after its first registration with 1 previous owner and with 4,000 miles on the odometer. Included with the vehicle is the printed stocklist, accompanied by the receipts from the sale. Further paperwork is also included, including various invoices and MOT receipts dating back to 2001 and the original booklets and handbooks including the service book.
