At the top of many a wish list, the Type 35 is arguably the most significant Bugatti ever made. A bewitching blend of artistry and engineering that has entranced generations of enthusiasts since its 1924 French GP debut, the model has also inspired various imitations including those manufactured by Teal (Thistledown Engineering Automotive Limited) from the mid-1980s onwards. More of a homage than an exacting recreation, the Teal 'Type 35' was available in kit or factory-built guises. Clothing mass-produced running gear beneath its convincing boat-tailed silhouette
This example is finished traditionally in blue with matching dark blue upholstery, and is wonderfully detailed with numerous louvers and scoops, wire wheels and leather bonnet straps. With further nice touches including a side-mounted spare wheel, wood-rimmed steering wheel, external handbrake, period Jaeger style dials, and Brooklands aero screens.
Bob Jones (the owner of team between 1986 and 1996), moved the premises of Teal construction to Whitley, Cheshire, where the late vendor resided and whereby Teal’s were subsequently manufactured from 1993 until 1998 when Teal was sold (and past orders completed). Built from a 1979 donor which entered current ownership in 1992 before beginning Teal construction and completion in the remaining 1990’s.
Staying with the late vendor since completion until offering today, the Teal has been fastidiously maintained throughout its ownership, with an extensive handwritten diary believed to contain details of every work completed from June 1999. Furthermore, photos of the build, wiring diagrams, substantial numbers of past MOTs and collection of previous invoices are also supplied with ‘DNF 469T’. Running the 1.8-litre B-Series engine with a Piper fast road cam on a Teal chassis, the Teal is also offered with a full tonneau in dark blue and extensive spares including a spare engine (rebuilt c.2015 and not ran since), back axle, exhaust manifold, gaskets and assorted other spares.
