Registration No: S109 UCA
Chassis No: SCALA61E1XCH01835
MOT: June 2022
Motor Car Location: Warrington, Cheshire
Finished in Silver Pearl with Cotswold Hide upholstery, chassis H01835 was ordered with the options of a Sunroof and Radio Telephone-GSM. It was also dispatched to Rolls-Royce’s in-house coachbuilding facility – Mulliner Park Ward – to ensure that the boot-mounted fridge could be transferred across from its predecessor. Most unusually, ‘S109 UCA’ has been in single family ownership from new. The three accompanying service books reveal that it has been main dealer maintained at 10,329, 20,145, 32,996, 40,569, 49,148, 61,973, 70,301, 75,211, 76,882, 77,790, 89,895, 90,157, 93,285, 96,160 and 105,071 miles. Recently treated to a thorough brake system overhaul (skimmed discs, new pads, new wear indicators), undersealing, replacement rear suspension bushes and shocker covers, refurbished wheels and sundry remedial paintwork at a cost of £3,336.64, chassis H01835 passed its last MOT test on 17th June 2021 with ‘no advisories’. Starting readily upon inspection and running well during our recent photography session, the Rolls-Royce is warranted to have covered 112,400 miles from new. A successful businessman, the first owner took delivery of the luxury saloon from S.P. Broughton & Co Ltd of Cheltenham and indeed one of their tax disc holders is still affixed to the windscreen. Domiciled in Cheshire, most of the car’s mileage was accrued driving to different racecourses around the UK to see its owner’s horses run. The interior leather is notably well preserved but the veneers are no longer perfect (the main culprit being the front passenger door capping). The original Blaupunkt stereo and telephone remain in place as does the fridge. A far subtler (and rarer) proposition than a modern era, Goodwood-built Rolls-Royce, this elegant Silver Seraph is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, original Owner Folio (complete with slip case), book pack, sundry service invoices, assorted MOTs and even the original stereo and telephone instruction booklets.
An undisputedly fine motorcar, the Graham Hull-penned Silver Seraph marked Rolls-Royce's intention to reclaim its reputation as producer of `the best car in the world'. Following a long gestation period that dated back to the late '80s, the model was actually only made for four years - 1998 to 2002 - as a result of which just 1,570 examples ultimately vacated the factory in Crewe. Although, only 369 of those were to right-hand drive, standard wheelbase specification. The company claimed the monocoque chassis to be 65 percent stiffer than that of the Silver Spirit it replaced. Power came from a BMW-derived all-alloy V12 engine of 5.4-litres, making it the first 12-cylinder car to transport the Silver Lady since the mighty Phantom III of 1939. The Seraph shared its platform, bodyshell and much else with the Bentley Arnage of the period. But while the twin-turbo V8-powered and more stiffly-suspended Arnage was aimed at the enthusiast driver, the Seraph was all about comfort and luxury.
