OFFERED FOR SALE WITHOUT RESERVE
The 2.0-litre Vauxhall-engined Westfield SE being sold is a well-known hillclimb / sprint special, purchased new in kit form by the late Peter Blankstone and assembled with help from Mallock Racing. The car was initially campaigned by his sister-in-law and her spouse, Cathy and Richard Warner, who enjoyed much success with it over the years - eg Cathy used it to win annual British Women Racing Drivers' Club trophies in 1996, 1997 and 1998. Initially on loan from Blankstone, it was passed to the Warners by Peter's wife Maggie after her husband's untimely death. The vendor purchased the Westfield from the Warners as a present for his wife. However, despite finishing second to a future McLaren test driver at racing school, she apparently declined to compete and the car has seen little recent use. Treated to some minor engine fettling by Mick Moberley of Hi-Tech Motorsport over the past few months, the Westfield would seem to have the makings of an entrant for Class H of the Westfield Sports Car Club's Speed Series Championship. Though doubtless it could be used in other forms of motorsport or as an adrenalin-pumping track day car. Featured in `Westfield - The Story' by Paul Robinshaw and Jeremy Bouckley, the SE comes complete with three folders containing set-up data and timing sheets plus various spares.
The specification includes: 2-litre, DOHC, 16-valve engine overhauled / modified by Swindon Racing Engines in 1994 (including conversion of the cylinder head to 235 specification); a period dyno report showed in excess of 220 bhp and 160 lb ft; four-wheel disc brakes; independent front suspension by double wishbones, coil-over springs, Spax dampers; `live' axle rear end with specially lengthened trailing arms and a Watts linkage; rack and pinion steering; Compomotive `Turbo' split-rim alloys; fibreglass bodywork. The best practice and event times achieved by the Warners between 1995 and 2001 were: Curborough 32.68 secs; Prescott (including the semi circle) 45.50 secs; Shelsey Walsh 31.98 secs; Harewood 61.04 secs; Barbon Manor 25.12 secs; Loton Park 56.65 secs; MIRA 49.71 secs; Gurston Down 33.25 secs.
