Registration No: M3 EXC
Chassis No: WBSCK92080LB06201
MOT: June 2021
By shoehorning the drivetrain of the four-seater M3 (E36) coupe into the bodyshell of the two-seater Z3 Roadster, BMW effectively created a factory ‘hot rod’. Boasting a wider track, lower ride height, stiffer springs/shock absorbers, and thicker anti-roll bars than its lesser siblings, the M Roadster also featured a limited-slip differential, reinforced subframe, and vented disc brakes. Powered by a 3.2 litre DOHC straight-six engine allied to ZF five-speed manual transmission, the svelte BMW had some 317bhp and 258lbft of torque on tap and was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and 155mph (limited). Later versions, from February 2001 onwards, came with the marginally more powerful S54 engine plus Dynamic Stability Control (though, some drivers preferred the rawer, more analogue feel of the early cars). Of the 15,322 Z3M Roadsters made between September 1996 and May 2002, just 991 were to RHD specification.
This right-hand drive Z3M Roadster is finished in the attractive colour combination of Arctic Silver paintwork, with Imola and Black leather upholstery. Manufactured in 1998, the BMW was first registered in March that year and is fitted with the 3201cc 312bhp S50-engine, which is said to be purer, lacking traction control and other driving aids. Benefitting from the factory options of Cruise Control, Roll Over Protection, Black Electric Hood, Business RDC, Windscreen Shading, English Handbook, Tracker, and Air Conditioning (although this requires recommissioning). The Z3M has recently received refurbishment to the alloy wheels and new Avon tyres in all corners, in addition to Vanos refurbishment which included new vanos gear plates, starting equipment refresh and shim checks.
In current custodianship since 2011, the ‘M3 EXC’ has only five former keepers and has covered 87,750 miles from new. Offered with two keys, V5C and stamped service book with numerous entries including many from BMW and specialists. The large history file additionally comprises of owner's handbook, and other booklets, and a large collection of past invoices and past MOTs. The Z3M is further provided with a Black tonneau cover, OEM rear window cover in the original wallet, wind deflector, original first aid kit, warning triangle, tool-kit and a Cosmos indoor car cover.
