Owned and run by the Goodman family, the mid 1920s proved a momentous time for Velocette during which it not only relocated to new premises at Hall Green, Birmingham but also introduced the highly innovative 'K' series engine. Designed by Percy Goodman, this 348cc single-cylinder unit featured a bevel-driven overhead camshaft (the profiling of which had been decided with the help of an early strobe light). More powerful / efficient than many of its rivals, it spawned a 'K' Super Sports (KSS) model late in 1925 and propelled Alec Bennett to victory in the following year's Isle of Man Junior TT race by an amazing ten minute margin (his average speed for the event was 66.70mph). Gradually developed in line with the rest of the range, the KSS gained a positive-stop, foot-operated change for its four-speed gearbox in 1928. Launched some eight years later, the MKII version was still capable of some 80mph but boasted a less leak prone engine. An all time classic, the KSS remains among the most desirable of the 1930s 'Cammy' sports roadsters.
Part of a private museum collection, this particular example has been in storage for some time and will therefore require recommissioning prior to usage. Sold strictly as seen, it is offered without any paperwork.
