Introduced in 1986, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W124) is still renowned for its engineering integrity and superb build quality. A monocoque chassis design equipped with beautifully balanced coil-sprung suspension (wishbone front / multi-link rear), nicely weighted power-assisted steering and responsive four-wheel disc brakes, it was propelled by a generous selection of petrol and diesel engines. Available in saloon, estate, coupe and convertible guises, the vast majority were specified with automatic transmission. An early flagship for the range, the 300CE exhibited notably sure-footed handling thanks to its forward-biased 53:47 weight distribution. Credited with 177bhp and 188lbft of torque, its 2962cc SOHC straight-six powerplant reputedly enabled the pillarless four-seater to accelerate from 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and onto 137mph. Belying its performance potential, the two-door coupe was blessed with elegant yet understated styling and a cosseting interior.
This 300CE was manufactured in 1990 and was first registered in the United Kingdom on the 9th of July 1990. Fitted with the 2962cc straight-six SOHC engine with four-speed automatic transmission, the Mercedes-Benz is finished in two-tone Blue with complimentary Blue cloth interior upholstery. ‘G389 SKR’ has a recorded mileage of just 65,062 miles (at time of consignment) with supporting MOTs in the history file and has had just four former keepers from new – a pleasingly low mileage and ownership example. Accompanied by a history file containing a large selection of past invoices, the aforementioned MOTs (the earliest dating to 2002), the owner's manual and other sundry paperwork. The 300 CE benefitted from many new parts in 2020 including a new water pump, rear brake pads, radiator and more. Offered with a current V5C and MOT certificate until July 2022.
