Hot versions of Citroën’s Saxo supermini, once the preserve of the Max Power brigade, have become genuinely desirable modern classics and good examples are exceedingly tricky to get hold of. The hot-hatch versions of the Saxo could be had in two flavours when new: VTR and VTS. The VTR was the eight-valve version and is recognised for the enjoyable steer it provides, rather than being overlooked as a result of its power deficit. Early cars had just 89bhp but, tipping the scales at just a shade over 900kg, the VTR could still crack the 0-62mph sprint in 10 seconds and top out at 116mph. With only 66,000 of both VTR and VTS variants understood to have been manufactured and much fewer thought to survive, these Saxo’s are of the rarer 1990’s hot-hatches.
This Saxo VTR was manufactured in 1997 and was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 30th of April 1997. Supplied new by C.D. Bramall Citroen in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire it is fitted with the 1587cc straight-four 8-valve engine mated to the five-speed manual transmission. Finished in Silver paintwork with Grey cloth interior upholstery, ‘P144 GRB’ has covered a total of only 40,958 miles from new (at time of consignment) and has had just one lady owner.
Offered with history file which including the original book pack comprising the Owners Handbook, Maintenance Book (which displays seven service stamps), UK Network Book, Stereo Guide, Dealer Directory and UK Network Book, all presented in the original Citroen wallet. The Saxo VTR was most recently serviced at 40,112 miles with works encompassing a full service, strip down and refitting of both the front and rear brakes with a new brake pipe fitted. The history files also includes eighteen past MOT certificates and a current V5C. It is understood that ‘P144 GRB’ will have benefited from driver's seat tidying by the time of the sale.
