Pontiacs made in the immediate postwar years were little altered from those models produced in the early 1940s. Indeed apart from minor changes to the radiator grill and the 1948 option of Hydramatic transmission, new Pontiacs stayed much the same until the 1949 car buying season. It was then that they shared all-new, full-width styling from General Motor Design Chief Harvey Earl with fellow GM subsidiaries Cadillac and Oldsmobile.
This 1952-built Pontiac Chieftain in white with white and brown interior has the original 4-litre 8-cylinder power unit, which is claimed to run very strongly, and a 3-speed automatic transmission. We understand that among items recently replaced have been the radiator and the carpets, which were custom-made. The car was repainted three years ago and the interior trim renewed about two years ago, while the slim-band whitewall radials are said to be nearly new. The history file is good, containing as it does various old MOTs, bills detailing work carried out as well as US service history. The straight eight American is reportedly an excellent driver.
