The Birmingham Small Arms factory was established in the Small Heath area of Birmingham in 1861 and as the name suggests manufactured weapons. Around the turn of the century, they started making bicycles and progressed onto motorcycles a few years later. BSA went on to be one of the world's largest producers of motorcycles up until its demise in the early 1970s. The Blue Star, launched in 1932 ushered in a new age of reliability and handling, being one of the first bikes that could make a 200-mile journey without stopping for maintenance or repair.
This nicely restored 1935 R35-5 350cc model was purchased by the vendor in 1985 as a basket case and has benefitted from a restoration completed in 2020. Using as many original parts as possible it has been restored to use, not just to look at, and has been started and run regularly. It comes together with a dating letter from the BSA Owners Club advising that it was dispatched from the factory to Henstocks in Sutton-in-Ashfield on the 19th April, 1935. Registered on a current V5C, it also comes supplied with an original 1930s BSA parts book and a couple of workshop manuals.
