The Suzuki Motor Co. was established in 1909 by Michio Suzuki to produce machinery for the cotton industry. An initial diversification into 4 wheeled transport was curtailed by WW2 but after the war Japan had a need for cheap reliable transport so Suzuki, like a lot of others around the world, began to produce clip-on engines for pushbikes. These proved to be an immediate success and soon they were making full motorcycles and by the early 60s were second only to Honda in numbers of two-wheelers manufactured. Suzuki only entered the sixteener special sports moped market with the AP50 in 1976 after giving Yamaha a couple of years headstart with the FS1E but immediately gave it a run for its money with a slightly better top speed due to its 5th gear. By 1978 the Department of Transport had begun to realise that the requirement for 16 years olds to only be allowed to ride a '50cc that can be propelled by pedals' was being abused. Most mopeds did about 50mph but with pedals that were almost impossible to use so the law was modified to a '50cc with a top speed of 30mph'. The AP50 became the A50K now with a proper footrest but a spacer in the carb to hold it back, soon removed once run in!

This rare A50K has been stored in a heated garage as part of a large private collection of 70s/80s classics and has been subject to an excellent restoration documented in a 63 page restoration file using many N.O.S. parts. Included is a Haynes workshop manual, Pitmans maintenance book and a genuine Suzuki A50 parts book. The engine turns over and the gears select, last used in the summer of 2020 it will need a some recommissioning before use.
