Awarded the prestigious accolade of "European Car of the Year" at its launch in 1976, the Rover SD1 was the first vehicle to come out of the newly formed Special Division of British Leyland (hence SD1). The ground-breaking hatchback, with design cues from the Ferrari Daytona and clever product placement by the marketing team, with appearances in The Professionals and The New Avengers, made the SD1 an instant hit with company executives. With order books filling up right from the off.
This now rare Series 1 survivor with the iconic early "shoe box" dash in left-hand drive form, is fitted with the 2600 straight-six engine and manual gearbox. Finished in the very scarce and fetching colour combination of Richelieu Red (which was only available from 1976-80) with Caviar interior the car was originally supplied to France where it spent most of its life before repatriation. With 56,000 miles from new, the 2600 has been subject to a odometer change to convert from kilometers to miles, the original kilometers odometer is provided with the car. Offered from a sizeable private collection and still on the French plates. Still in exceptionally original condition, the SD1 is rated a ‘excellent’ throughout by the vendor.
