Introduced for the 1980 season the YZ50 featured cantilever, monoshock rear suspension echoing the system employed by Yamaha's full size motocrossers. Wheel sizes were 12" at the rear and 14" at the front. Intended for use by youngsters the little bikes also found favour as paddock bikes with the racing fraternity. Barry Sheene left Suzuki at the end of the 1979 to ride a privateer Yamaha, although he quickly started to receive support from the factory.
Correspondence with this machine indicates that it, along with the YZ80 also entered in the sale were supplied by Yamaha to Barry Sheene to use as a paddock bike. It is described by the vendor as being in excellent mechanical order and good cosmetically and offers fans of one of our most fondly remembered Grand Star's the opportunity to acquire a machine ridden by the great man that is within all our capabilities of mastering.
