Further Info:

Introduced in 1963, the Bristol 408 ushered in a new marque aesthetic which lasted until the arrival of the 411 Series 3 during 1972. Sporting a distinctive rectangular grille (with inset driving lights), straight-through wing line and oval tail lamps, the newcomer utilized Bristol's proven 114-inch wheelbase box-section platform chassis that featured independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a 'live' Salisbury rear axle and four-wheel disc brakes. Sourced from Chrysler, its 313ci / 5130cc OHV V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission endowed the four-seater sports saloon with effortless, refined performance. With a claimed 250bhp and 339lbft of torque on tap, the 408 was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds and 126mph. Guaranteed exclusivity by its £4,459 6s 3d price tag, the Bristol boasted a luxurious but understated cabin. Only available for four years, just 83 are thought to have been made.
