Sanglas was founded in 1949 in Barcelona and, unlike the majority of their Spanish rivals who built lightweight two strokes, concentrated from the outset on the production of medium capacity over head valve single cylinder machines offered in a range of capacities from 248cc to 496cc. The company utilised the latest innovations in order to ensure that they were at the forefront of their field. The majority of production went to the Spanish Police and armed forces, although civilian models were offered and machines were exported. During the late seventies it was reported that a four valve double over head cam 750cc single was in development although the machine never made it into production. The Late seventies had also seen an increase in exports with the machines becoming more readily available in Europe. A tie up with Yamaha resulted in the production of some XS400 powered machines being built in an attempt to broaden the range, but unfortunately did not do enough to prevent the closure of the once proud manufacturer in 1981.
The example offered was built in 1960 and is attractively presented with black paintwork complimented by chrome tank panels and mudguards. Spanish documents are included with the machine.
