The sleek-looking Jaguar XK8 first broke cover at the 1996 Geneva Salon as a replacement for the ageing XJS. Available either as a two-door Coupe or Convertible, it was the first Jaguar ever to be powered by an eight-cylinder engine. Designed in-house by Geoff Lawson, the newcomer (in common with the Aston Martin DB7) was based on a much modified XJS platform - the changes to which included the fitting of the independent rear suspension from the XJ40. The standard version of the XK8 was powered by a 290bhp normally-aspirated of the company's AJ26 V8 engine, and for those requiring still more performance Jaguar offered a supercharged version, the mighty XKR. Like the XK8, this 370bhp monster was available in closed or open version; the latter could hit 60mph in a whisker over five seconds and power quickly to the electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. A number of limited editions were also produced. These included the `XKR Silverstone' that was created to celebrate Jaguar's return to F1 racing. It featured a platinum paint finish (with Black hood for the Convertibles); 20-inch Silver BBS Detroit split-rim wheels shod with Pirelli PZero tyres; an uprated chassis with special Brembo brakes and CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension) suspension system; and a custom interior featuring Red-stitched Black leather and bird's-eye maple wood. There were two phases of production, the first was for the UK only and comprised just 50 Coupes and 50 Convertibles.

The very handsome right-hand drive Convertible offered was one of the above and was manufactured on May 30th 2000. The vendor considers the bodywork, paintwork, trim, engine and transmission to be in "good" order. This very rare performance Jaguar has had three keepers to date and is now ready for somebody else to enjoy.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until June 2012.
