The Derbi concern was originally founded in 1951 by Senor Rabosa in Barcelona and from the outset concentrated on the production of high quality lightweights. During the 1960's and early 1970's the company achieved a considerable degree of success at the highest level in the 50 and 125cc racing classes. The company continues today offering a range of lightweight machines, although the two stroke power plants have been replaced by four-strokes.
The machine dates from 1955 and is an example of a model that is highly regarded and sought after in its native country. The two stroke engine, built in unit with the gearbox is housed in a single loop frame equipped with plunger rear suspension. Upside down telescopic forks are mounted at the front with a nacelle housing the headlamp. Full width hubs, an enclosed carburettor and sprung saddle add to the air of quality projected by the motorcycle which is further enhanced by the cast alloy rear light housing and flashes on the matched toolboxes. Attractively finished in maroon with green tank panels the machine.
