The FIM had announced that from 1988 the 125cc Grand prix class would be restricted to machines with a single cylinder engine and a maximum of 6 gears. Honda had campaigned a prototype machine during the 1987 season with Ezio Gianolo in the saddle of what was to become known to the world at large as the RS125 when a production version was offered for sale in 1988. In the years since the little Honda has won at all levels of competition from club races to Grand Prix.
Although it has been subject to continual development and a major revision (in 1995 when a balancer shaft, cassette type gearbox and a rising rate monoshock were introduced) it has remained true to the original design concept. The two stroke power unit relies on reed valve induction and is housed in an alloy beam frame.
The machine offered was ridden by former British 125 Champion and 2003 Ultralightweight TT winner Chris Palmer in the 2004 Ultralightweight TT, the final TT for 125 class machines to be held. Palmer was chased hard by his rival Ian Lougher until Lougher's chain was thrown, letting Robert Dunlop through to secure second place in his final TT. Palmer won at an average speed of 108.93mph, quicker than his previous years victory.
The machine was also ridden to victory in the Ulster Grand Prix and numerous other races. The machine is offered today in very good condition and will make an excellent addition to any collection.
